June 11th - Travel Day
This morning, the five of us(Hannah, Hanna, Lea, Emily, and Joseph) planned met up at 4:00 PM in front of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Our flight didn’t leave until 6:35 PM, but we knew that we didn’t want to miss our flight. Leah got there first, at 3:30, and she went into the Starbucks inside the airport for a drink to pass the time while she waited for the others. Everyone else slowly began arriving, until 4:10, when Joseph, the last member of our group, arrived.
We began making our way through the airport and through the long line of security. Joseph was stopped by security, and had to be scanned before he could pass. The metal detector went off, and he had to have a patdown. It turned out he had change in his pockets. After finally getting through security(cough cough), we went on the escalator to the long line of terminals. Ours was D6, which was all the way on the end. Across from us, there was this store called Flavours, which had Hershey’s ice cream prominently on display. We put our stuff down on one of the seats next to our terminal, leaving Hanna there to watch it, and the four of us went to go eat ice cream to pass the time.Emily dropped her chocolate ice cream after she tripped on an old man's luggage. Unfortunately, she happened to spill her ice cream on the old man.We all got a lecture on politeness, with quite a few “back in my day”s. Even after Emily apologized about a hundred times and offered to clean it up, he was still yelling as we left. After finishing our ice cream, we still had a little bit less than an hour to wait before our flight got there, so we all just went on our phones. There was a bit of a panic when Lea couldn't find her phone, but then realized it was in her hand.
The flight got there right on time, so we boarded the plane, United Flight UA8283, and got to our seats without issue. We had a rock-paper-scissors tournament over who got the window seat, with Hanna and Emily getting a little bit violent. When they started shouting, the rest of us gave Lea the window seat. It wasn’t that great for her, since we kept asking her to take pictures of the view. The flight to Toronto was around 1 hour and 45 minutes, so each person took out something to entertain themselves. Luckily, everyone remembered to bring their headphones, so we all listened to music, too. Hanna and Hannah both finished a book, and then switched with each other.
Our flight was pretty uneventful, with little turbulence, but the view from the airplane was pretty great, especially once we got closer to Toronto. We landed right around 8:30, at gate F81. There was a Tim Horton’s right next to our gate, so we decided to get some, since we were pretty hungry.Luckily, no one spilled their food on anyone this time. After we ate, we still had a little over an hour to wait, since our next flight left at 11:10 PM, so we just went to our gate and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited some more.
The flight to Dublin arrived at 11:07 PM, and we, almost asleep, managed to find our way to our seats. We were too tired to fight over the window seats, so we just sat down in whichever seat was on our ticket. Almost immediately, we all fell asleep, except for Hanna, who stayed up another hour reading.
